4. Data Storage and Security

4.1 Local-First Architecture

Requery operates on a local-first principle:

  • Database credentials and query results are stored locally on your device by default

  • Cloud synchronization is optional and only activated when you:

    • Enable team workspaces and collaboration

    • Share queries or results with team members

    • Use real-time multiplayer features

  • You maintain control over where your data resides

What stays local by default:

  • Database connection credentials

  • Query results and cached data

  • Personal queries and scripts

  • Application settings and preferences

What can be synchronized to the cloud (only with your explicit consent):

  • Shared workspace content (queries, comments, annotations)

  • Query version history for collaborative workspaces

  • Team member permissions and access controls

  • Shared links to query results

  • User profile information for team collaboration

4.2 Security Measures

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS/SSL) for all network communications

  • Encryption at rest for cloud-stored data

  • Access controls and authentication mechanisms

  • Regular security audits and updates

  • SOC 2 compliance (planned for enterprise tier)

4.3 Data Retention

  • Account data is retained while your account is active

  • Query history and workspace content are retained according to your subscription plan

  • You can delete your data at any time through the application

  • After account termination, we retain data for 30 days before permanent deletion

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
